Nutrition care is not only about eating the right foods, but it is also about community, and how through our unique community of people we support each other and provide equitable access to fresh, healthy, balanced food.

Supporting the Current Community

This month I will be hosting a FREE – Open to the Public - educational event at Colorado Mountain College about proper nutrition for outdoor winter recreation! In addition to providing some critical information about hydration and macronutrients, I will also be explaining how to make the best choices for low cost, portable snacks. I’m planning on bringing along some recipes and samples to help you optimize your intake for your next outdoor adventure!

The event is free to everyone in the community.

CMC Pinnacle Resource Center on February 23rd from 5-6:30pm.

Community Nutrition of the Past

Recently, the Leadville Historical Society posted a cookbook written in 1889 named The Cloud City Cookbook, authored by Ms. Wm H. Nash (and others) and published by the Herald Democrat. Reading this book is a joy from both an historical perspective, but it also because it contains delightful recipes. If you are interested in reading it, send me an email to karen@rmfpleadville.com and I can provide the link to the electronic version.

Community Resources

I’m in the process of updating my list of available low cost and free community nutrition resources. As a reminder, the Leadville/Lake County Senior and St George Episcopal Mission offer community meals multiple times per week.
