Frequently asked questions and answers
What is Rocky Mountain Family Practice of Leadville?
Rocky Mountain Family Practice of Leadville (RMFP) is a primary care practice that offers Direct Primary Care (DPC). This healthcare model was intentionally chosen by Dr. Lisa Zwerdlinger because it focuses on patient care, clinical excellence, accessibility, and service. By adopting the DPC model RMFP has put patient care first.
What is DPC?
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is an innovative alternative payment model for improving access to high-functioning healthcare with a simple, flat, affordable membership fee. No fee-for-service payments. No third-party (insurance) billing. Patients have extraordinary access to a physician of their choice and physicians are accountable first and foremost to their patients.
(Direct Primary Care Coalition, 2021).

Additional benefits of DPC and RMFP include:
• Direct contact with your doctor when you need them
• More time with your doctor
• Simple pricing schedule
• No Co-pays or insurance billing issues
• After-hours access to providers by phone, text, or email
• Affordable healthcare options to assist business owners in offering healthcare options to employees.
How do appointments and scheduling work with RMFP?
Rocky Mountain Family Practice of Leadville is membership-based. We ensure that patients can see Dr. Lisa when they need her care by limiting the number of members. Members just reach out via phone, email, or text to have access to Dr. Lisa Zwerdlinger.
RMFP is about delivering healthcare where the patient needs it when they need it. A member of RMFP will be seen when they request care and as often as they need/want to be seen. Appointment lengths are dictated by what the patient needs to address in that visit as opposed to how many patients can be squeezed into the day. Dr. Lisa Zwerdlinger will see patients in person at the office, on telehealth, or coming to where the patient is in Lake County.
Does Rocky Mountain Family Practice of Leadville take insurance?
At RMFP, everything we do is with the patient in mind. We keep costs down and provide timely access to medical care by offering an inclusive fixed-monthly fee. By not billing insurance for the care we provide in the office, we minimize the medical practice’s administrative workload while increasing the time we spend with patients. You are still able to use your insurance if services are needed outside of our office like specialty consultations with other doctors, tests at outside facilities, and services provided in hospitals for example.
Most patients save money overall by not needing to pay copays, meet deductibles, or have unnecessary testing or specialist/urgent care visits. As your physician will be focused on you, your care is well coordinated and you always have access to your physician.
Do I need to keep insurance?
Yes, though with an RMFP membership, you may desire to adjust your coverage plan to focus more on prescriptions, and major medical expenses such as emergency, imaging, labs, or hospitalization to decrease your overall costs.
